82 Integration

Let's integrate the following function:

Function: ∫ cos(x) dx

Steps:

1. Recall the Integral of cos(x): The basic integral of cos(x) is sin(x). This is one of the standard trigonometric integrals that you should memorize.

2. Add the Constant of Integration (C): Since indefinite integrals represent a family of functions, we add the constant of integration: ∫ cos(x) dx = sin(x) + C

Explanation:

• Integration is the reverse process of differentiation.
• The derivative of sin(x) is cos(x), so the integral of cos(x) is sin(x).
• The constant of integration 'C' accounts for any vertical shift of the antiderivative, since the derivative of a constant is zero.

Let's check our result:

Take the derivative of our answer, sin(x) + C:

• d/dx [sin(x) + C] = cos(x) + 0 = cos(x)

Since the derivative gets us back to the original function, our solution is correct!

Important Note: This is an indefinite integral (no limits of integration). Definite integrals, where we integrate over a specific interval, will result in a numerical answer instead of a function plus a constant.

Water-Cycle

It is common knowledge that the sunrays absorb water from the

surface of the Earth — namely seas, streams, rivers and other such water

bodies. This gets converted into water vapour and thus rises. As it goes

higher, it becomes cooler and begins to move. Various particles ofvapour

collect together and condense to form clouds which when become too

heavy are difficult to sustain. The condensed vapour in these clouds then

comes down in the form of rains and fills the various water bodies from

where once again it evaporates with the heat ofthe Sun and thus, the cycle of water is maintained.

With a proper beginning and conclusion prepare a list of 10 questions to interview Dr. Narverkar, the chief guest at the science exhibition.

Science Exhibition in the City.

Ans. 

Pune, November 26. 

The ten-day Science exhibition which was organised by the education officer of the Municipal Council ended yesterday to a grand success. Over the ten-day period, students of classes VIII,IX and X were invited to present working models on various scientific concepts. The  'Rainwater Harvesting' model was adjudged the best. Many innovative and well-prepared models caught the attention of the visitors as well as the organiser. Among the various items, the use of laser technology in the field of culture, entertainment and medical field was highlighted. 

The Chief Guest, Dr Narverkar, Senior Assistant and Scientist visited the site on the last day and was present till the end of the closing ceremony. Being highly impressed with the efforts made by the teaching faculty and the students, he declared an incentive to schools from the next academic year. The Science exhibition, according to a great majority, was so far the most marvellous one ever held in the city.
