The people would live in harmony and would actively perform their duties towards the nation. 

India has the potential to reform itself and I dream that one day, it will pave the way for the world to create a healthy balance between development, humanity and environment. The India of my dreams would heal the world from its present situation of over-consumerism and materialism.

A citizen is a person who lives in a state and is governed by its laws in all matters. An ideal citizen is an asset to a nation. Countries are not good or bad but their citizens make them so. Smugglers, law breakers and people of bad character are also citizens of a country but they cannot be called ideal citizens.

An ideal citizen is every inch a patriot. Citizenship secures for the people a sense of security for their life and property. In a democratic country like India, a citizen enjoys the right of voting in elections to public bodies. He can himself stand as a candidate for election to the municipal committee of his town and legislative bodies of his country. He can even stand for the office of the president of the country.

A citizen enjoys several other advantages. It is the duty of the state to provide him with employment as far as possible.

A citizen enjoys several facilities. The state provides him with essential services such as transport, right of voting, electricity, hospitals and schools for the education of his children.

Modern states are welfare states. They are supposed to look after the welfare of the citizens. A citizen can stand up and fight for certain rights.

On the other hand, a citizen has to carry out certain duties and responsibilities. He is expected to obey the laws of his country. He must be loyal to the state. He or she must gladly offer his or her services to the state. In time of war or a national emergency, a citizen should serve the country in any capacity he is called upon to serve.

Every citizen must support the police and the administration in general in the maintenance of peace. It is also the duty of all citizens to desist from creating disorder by communal riots.

An ideal citizen tries to protect national property. He makes a right use of the facilities provided to him. He tries to maintain communal harmony in the country. He has a secular outlook. He is tolerant towards all faiths. He believes in the principle of peaceful co-existence. ‘Live and let live’ is the guiding principle of his life. He is honest and fair in his dealings. He has a helpful attitude towards his fellow human beings. He refuses to be tempted into corruption or dishonesty. His life is an open book in honesty, diligence and amiability.

It is the duty of every citizen to be ready to offer his services for public duties. It is the fundamental duty of a citizen to record his vote. A citizen is also expected to take an active part in public affairs. Another duty of a citizen is to pay taxes honestly. If he evades these, the government has the right to realize the taxes by force. An ideal citizen is ideal in his speech, conduct and writing. He is always ready to lay down his life for the sake of his country. His country is a motherland to him and he loves her from the core of his heart.

Respected Teacher and Dear friends, My school has been for me the temple where I was guided, instructed and moulded. It has been the garden in which I flowered. The playground was the place where my body gained its physical fitness, the classroom where my mind was nurtured. I am Amin - XII B. I wrote this speech last night and the only thing I couldn’t find was the perfect opening line. All I know is that I stand here today, with a heavy heart. What does Our School mean to me? It simply defines who I am.

I like to think of Our School as a sculptor, which takes in every year, a group of uncultured minds and sends out every year, a batch of refined individuals, each with a unique character and ambition for his/her life ahead. This difficult task of chiseling is done by our great teachers. Today, being one of the outgoing students, I hope I make my teachers and school proud of me. This is what I have learnt here. It goes without saying, my life is not going to be the same without school. Being in school subjects you to a healthy routine and discipline. If you stray off the track, there are always people who will guide back. In college, there is going to be no such support system. Each individual is on his own, and all of us have to face various challenges and make difficult decisions. That’s natural, but how you deal with it depends on how you have been moulded by your parents and school. I am confident that both have done an excellent job and I am ready to take on the world. Also, the kakas & Maushis keeping it spic & span and making it a pleasure to step into school every morning. I take this opportunity to thank all the teachers for teaching us not only the assigned curriculum but also enlightening us with the valuable lessons of life. Next, the management of our School for showing us how to run the school with dignity and discipline and of course! I would like to thank my dear friends, some, who taught me what to do in life by being shining examples and some others, who taught me what not to do! A special thanks to all the teachers present here today for being a part of these final two years. Looking at them take a keen interest and excel in their respective subjects has always inspired me to pursue and master at least one, if not more of these subjects.

All my teachers and friends have always been an integral part of my life and not seeing you all again gives me the shivers. I hope to remain in touch with each one of you all forever. I wish all my friends good luck for their future life and I pray that each one achieves his/her goals and dreams. I will miss each and every element of this school but at the same time, cherish the memories of my time spent here. Respected Principal, teachers and my dear students,

It is indeed with a heavy heart that we have gathered here to wish our dear Prof. Amin a happy and fruitful retired life. We will no longer have the privilege of daily interaction and learning from a source that we have taken for granted. Prof. Amin has been teaching in our school for the past 25 years but I have been lucky enough to have been taught by him at least for the past 2 years in the standard V and X.

My first memory of him was of a stern teacher, who entered the class with the text in the left hand and chalk dust all over his right hand. He made a dreaded subject like mathematics seem easy when he worked out the problems on the blackboard with lightning speed. He made us learn the formulae, theorems and equations so that they remained in our heads. He reduced an amazing number of chalk sticks to dust on his hands and the toes of his shiny black shoes.

It saddens me that Prof. Amin will be retiring from active teaching. We have no words to thank him enough for giving us a strong foundation in Maths. He always told us that no problem is too difficult to solve. We wish him good health, happiness and contentment in his well-deserved time of rest and reflection with the satisfaction of the job well done.

Honorable Principal, respected teachers and my dear friends, We have all gathered here to discuss the issue of good health and exercise. Very often, we all wonder if a balanced diet alone can give us good health. Or, if exercise alone is a determining factor, in maintaining our good health?

Everyone here will agree with me that a balanced diet plays a major role in maintaining good health. But that alone is not enough. We need to keep our body supple and our mussels flexible. Only exercise can do this and if we exercise regularly our bodies seem to be slim and trim.

The moment we say exercise, today’s youngsters think of the gym. Man has invented so many machines to keep us slim and trim and if you have the money for it, they can work wonders on you. 

But tell me dear friends, what did man do before the invention of these slimming machines? Weren’t our ancestors whole and hearty, just by walking, working and slogging? Modern man hardly walks. He has vehicles and machines at his call and to serve his every need.

I think it is high time we realize the importance of natural and traditional methods of keeping ourselves in shape. They don’t require any money. Besides, pollution can be reduced to a great extent if we all walk briskly to school or work place.

So friends, forget money and machines. Old is gold. Let’s give importance in walking, natural methods of machineless exercise and even yoga. Let’s live a longer and healthier life by sticking to a balanced diet and a strict regimen of walking, exercise or yoga.

Good morning everybody, most of all my dear students for whom I stand here today. I realize that you have been told I am going to talk about how to study for 10th standard Board Examination. And so I presume some must already be tense and some others bored. But I have something to cheer you all up today.

Indeed I will talk on how to study for 10th, But I shall talk of something from what others tell you. First of all, don’t think of 10th as something big, monstrous or scary. It is just another exam with a little more importance. The only thing necessary for you to stay on track is to stay in touch with your syllabus. You don’t have to study for 10 hours a day. 2 - 3 hours is enough if it is sincerely utilized. Science numericals, maths and language grammar must be practised every day, because it is not something one can read and remember. Choose one subject everyday. Do not overburden yourself with either studies or tension. Remember, homework done regularly and sincerely is self study in itself. That means you do not need to spend extra time on homework.

Regularity matters. It is not about finishing fast, it is about finishing well. With a proper plan you will give yourself ample time to relax and enjoy. Yes it is possible. In fact it seems the toppers enjoy the most not because they score but because they have time to enjoy as they plan their work. But we must remember it is not enough to plan our work, we must also work on our plan. With a few tips and regular work. I am sure you will do well next year. As for now, just relax!!

Respected teachers and my dear friends. Today I want to draw the attention of one and all towards the wastage of electricity in our country. You will agree that during the last several years the consumption of electricity has been steadily rising. Since 2014 consumption of electricity produced and supplied was 500 Megawatts and more.

The major portion of consumption was of the industrial houses; it was 250 Megawatts in 2014 but touched 350 Megawatts. Residential units consumed 100 Megawatts in 2014 but it rose to 150 in 2016. In the agriculture sector, the rise was not steep because of a satisfactory rainfall. But there was also a slight rise in consumption in this sector from 2014 onwards.

This overall look on the consumption front indicates that it has been rising steadily. This is because of many factors. There are changes in the standard of living and total dependence for using various gadgets of daily use of electricity. Obviously, this meant that in the coming years electricity crisis may be sharper unless effects are made to set up more thermal or hydel power stations. I would like to add that we must check the misuse of electricity in every way. All perhaps know that electricity saved is electricity produced. So we must use it when it is necessary and unavoidable. For example, we must switch it off in the room from which we come out. Coolers, refrigerators, TVs, etc. must be switched off when they are not used. Similarly, street lights must be switched on when it is really dark. Farmers can save electricity by using good quality condensers and ISI marked motors for their tube wells. Only in this way can we save much electricity.

It is indeed a healthy sign that women all over the world are waking up to their rightful place in the society. But much is still to be achieved. For example, violence against women is still practised almost in all male-dominated societies of the world. This aspect is deplorable in our country. Daily we read in newspapers how some wild people burn the brides for the sake of dowry, while some beat their wives under the effect of liquor on flimsy grounds. Life, in fact, is a great burden for our women. They toil from morning to evening like bonded labourers. When they are beaten on unreasonable grounds, the conscience of males is not pricked. No one treats them like human beings. The killing of female foetuses has been increasing. There are changes in the standard of living.

It is amazing that even after sixty years of independence, we come across cases of dowry deaths, killing of female foetuses, withdrawing of girl-students from schools and gender discrimination. The newspapers are full of such news. It is really terrifying that the sex ratio has been steadily declining in our country. On an average there are 892 females against 1000 males.

Women are discriminated against everywhere, though our Constitution guarantees equality in every walk of life. There are instances when women are paid less for the same work for which men are paid more and such things are never reported. Not only that, women are glamorized in advertisements. But underneath they are treated on an inhuman level. It is now the time that men must recognize the fact that women are no less than them in any way. There should not be any discrimination against them. We need to restore them their appropriate status in India.

Today I am here to speak on global warming. Global Warming is definitely the single greatest environmental challenge that the planet earth is facing at present. It seems we have greatly disturbed the ecological balance of nature. The rains which used to be in plenty in the past have refused to bless us. What we need is to rise up to the cause of all this. It is a fact that due to global warming, nature has been undergoing serious changes. These have already started showing grim signs of dangers to human life. With the advancement of technology, man has abused nature and therefore nature is now not in her benevolent state. It has been exploited by humans for their own selfish purposes.

The fuel which you use in order to power your homes, cars, businesses and more is heating up the planet faster than expected. We are recording the hottest days and decades ever. What’s alarming is that the temperature of the earth has climbed to the highest point it has ever been in the past 12,000 years. It only gets worse from here if we don’t stop it now. It has been reported that due to global warming glaciers and some other snow capped mountains are gradually melting. The result is that these glaciers, which provided a cold condition till now, are fast melting and resulting in the rising of the sea-level.

Nowadays, almost every country is trying to be a superpower. As a result nuclear weapons are made. The tests are being held at regular intervals. This also results in global warming.

On an individual level also, we must work to adopt a greener and healthier lifestyle. Try to drive less and walk more or take public transport. Get into the habit of recycling and avoid unnecessary wastage of goods. Save electricity by switching off appliances when not in use.  Most importantly, you should plant a tree as a single tree can absorb one ton of carbon dioxide in its lifetime. Thus, remember, the change begins with you.

Dear friends, we have one life. Let us make our one life more meaningful by donating blood. Blood donation is the mother of all donations. Blood donation directly gives life to another human being. It not only saves one individual but also the entire family of that individual. A person can donate blood thrice in a year. The donated blood will be thoroughly checked and stored up in a secured form. For donating blood a person must have a weight of at least 45 kg.

Many people have misunderstandings about blood donation. They feel by donating blood they will fall sick. But it is not like so, the donated blood will automatically regenerate by our body itself within four to five hours after donating the blood. A person will be prohibited from donating blood if he drank alcohol during the last six hours.

So friends, let us put our hands together and make a promise to donate blood at least once in a year.
