“A book cannot be judged by its cover”

“A book cannot be judged by its cover” simply states to us that we should not jump to any conclusion just by looking at the outer appearance of a person. Look at the example of jackfruit from outer appearance. It looks very abnormal and has thorns but after cutting it we get a very sweet and tasty thing to eat. In the same way, we in our day-to-day life should not judge any person by outer appearance.

In school and college, Students complain about teachers for strict discipline and punishment but in reality, all teachers love their students like their own children and they want them to learn properly. They want them to teach the values and morals thus they need to be strict.

Therefore I feel that just by reading the cover page of a book we must not jump to a conclusion rather than read the content of the book. Mother Teresa had a very simple appearance. But people all over the world remember and honor her.

“Fortune Favors Brave”

A person who comes across difficulties with courage and confidence can achieve success in their life. Fortune Favors Brave suggests that a person has to take risks in his day-to-day life. A person does not get success because of luck but because of daring to do something and face challenges and difficulties for victory. One who does not dare to do something new can never do a great deed.

We all know Columbus started a great voyage and lost his way even though his people revolted against him but because of his bold nature, courage only he was able to reach his destination. Also, look at the example of Vasco Da Gama how he reached India’s Calicut Port.

This Proverb inspires us to face challenges with courage and bravery. People with courage get victory over difficulties and reach success. In the end, we can say another proverb “There are no gains without pain”.

“Knowledge is Power”

Knowledge is more powerful and we cannot do any great work without knowledge. Knowledge is something that enriches a person to achieve great results and do the toughest work. There is no end to knowledge, till the last moment of our life we can seek knowledge. With the help of knowledge, man has conquered nature. No individual or nation can progress without knowledge.

Knowledge is superior to physical strength in gaining success. In history, we have seen many physically strong countries defeated by nations who are knowledgeable and intelligent. Knowledge brings civility in man and utilizes the various forces from nature for the benefit of humankind. Man has reached this height of progress only due to knowledge and its proper application. World civilization and culture have experienced advancement due to knowledge only.

A teacher cannot teach to students without knowledge. Students cannot pass the examination without knowledge.

“Honesty is the Best Policy”

The phrase ‘Honesty is the Best Policy’ teaches that it is always better to tell the truth instead of lying. Being honest will save us from serious problems or difficulties in our personal and professional life. An honest person can always be free from all the worries.

Honesty helps in developing good qualities like kindness, discipline, truthfulness, good integrity, and more. Honest people are sincere, trustworthy and loyal, throughout their life. There are popular quotes, said by a famous personality like “Honesty is the first chapter in the book of wisdom”.

“Mahatma Gandhi was trusted by millions only because he took ‘honesty is the best policy as his way of life.”

Being honest is being a good human being in life. A good character person has nothing to hide from anyone thus can be honest easily. Honesty gives us self-confidence without a bad feeling.

“Believing in yourself is believing in the best”

Believing in yourself is believing in the best means that if we wish to achieve success in life or want to achieve a certain goal, then it can only be done when we have utmost faith and belief in ourselves. We should believe in our capabilities and skills and must not get affected by people’s opinions”.

The Great Scientist Thomas Edison failed 1000 times while inventing the Electric Bulb. People doubted him, discouraged him that an electric bulb could not be made. But he was never discouraged, it is the self-belief of Thomas Edison which kept him trying again-again and eventually he succeeded and built the Electric Bulb.

Thus, stop doubting yourself and ignore people’s opinions and start to believe in yourself, in your knowledge and key skills these are the only factors that drive you to success.

“Humor is the Spice of Life”

Humor relaxes our minds from anxiety or tensions. In one of his popular poems, John Mansfield advises us to laugh and be happy. He reminds us that life is short and we should make the best of it.

A person who makes others laugh by funny acts will be liked by everyone. We know that laughter is the best medicine. But the ingredient to laugh is a sense of humor. Our attitude is to be cheerful and happy despite the stresses and frustration of life.

We love those teachers who funnily teach us and use jokes. If we want to enjoy our life at every moment then we should keep those friends and relatives who always think positively and have a sense of humor. A true test of a sense of humor is the ability to laugh at oneself, at one’s weakness and foolishness.

Humor encourages our immune system, controls our anger, and protects our hearts. Our approach and attitude towards negative things also become positive and we find positivity and goodness in everything. Hence, humor is the Spice of life.

‘Nature is the best teacher’

The real lessons that you will learn to live life in a better way are the teachings of nature. There are many hidden treasures of nature which we can see from our open eyes and also some cannot be seen that include the sun, moon, trees, rain, oceans, fields, mountains, and many other things.

Each thing teaches us each lesson as sun teaches us how to shine in our life and moon teaches us how to be calm and shine even in darkness and trees teaches us how to share our shelter to others and food to others, and river teaches us how to move forward in our life even when we facing challenges.

Therefore, it is rightly said that ‘Nature is the best teacher’ for everything and anything we want to learn.

‘Friends – a real treasure’

Friends are better known as companions. We all need friends in our life. They are the relish of our life as food without salt has no taste similarly without friends life has no taste. We all need friends to share our happiness, sorrow, to support each other, and also to learn new things from each other, to always stand with them in the good and bad situations as their support system. And the real care of good friends is when they help you without being selfish, share every little joy and sadness of their life, even when you are not doing well.

Real friends are inspiration and motivation. They always make you happy when you are sad, they uplift you when you fall, they always push you to do good things, they guide you when you are on the wrong path and make the friendship bond stronger.

We need friends in every moment of our life to have fun with them, to chill with them, to share our problems, and worries and at last friends are the best therapist of our life and. Hence friends are the real treasure of our life.

Life is a beautiful gift to us from God. What we make of it is our return gift to Him. Our deeds and our actions are what we are judged by and hence it is rightly said that we live in deeds not in years which is only a measurement of the passage of time.

A short life well spent and well - lived is far better than a long span of life which is ridden by negativity and pessimism. Our actions often speak and they do so louder than words, hence it is imperative that a good living should be marked and characterized by our deeds of kindness, generosity, charity, humility and above all forgiveness. It is only when we do good that we can expect good in return. It is only when we are polite and thoughtful that others will follow and do likewise. Most of the famous and legendary personalities in this world are remembered for their deeds - for what they did, not for how long they live. Hence, let's live our lives exemplary in deeds and not in age.

To err is human, to forgive divine.

In one of Shakespeare’s plays one of the characters says, ” The quality of mercy is divine “. Indeed to be able to forget the evil that others have done to you and to forgive them is divine. Jesus Christ, even on the cross, during his last moments, was able to say this about the people who had put him to death : father, forgive them for they know not what they are doing. Lord Rama showed no rancour against his stepmother, Kaikeyi, for sending him to the forest for sending him to the forest for fourteen years so that her son, Bharat, could be the king.

All of us are humans. We all have our weaknesses. No human being is perfect. So when someone does something wrong to us, why can’t we forgive them? When someone hurts us it is because that person is human and little understands the harm that he or she is causing. Forgiving that person brings out the god-like nature that lies in man. It is not very easy to do, but once we do it, we will feel an inner peace and the spirit of reconciliation.

Neither a borrower nor a lender be.

Expansion of Ideas — For School & College Students

One of the characters in a play by Shakespeare gives this advice to his son who is about to travel abroad: "Neither a borrower nor a lender be." In other words, one should neither borrow money from another, nor should one lend money to another. Simply put, one should be careful in money matters. When you give money to someone, you are sure to spoil your relationship with that person, because in all likelihood they are not going to repay you the amount. Neither should you borrow. If you don’t have enough money, make do with what little you have, rather than spoiling a relationship with someone by borrowing money from them.

The advice given in this proverb is full of practical wisdom. Money often gets in the way of healthy relationships. So, don’t let money spoil your connections with people. Give your friends your time, your advice, and your practical help in their times of crisis. But don’t give them money. And expect the same treatment in return.

The Hand that rocks the cradle Rules the world

Expansion of Ideas School & College Section.

The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand of the mother. The proverb therefore implies that the very same mother who rocks the cradle to put her child to sleep, also rules the world. How is this so?

The word ‘rule’ in the proverb does not necessarily mean to ‘govern’. It is used in a wider sense i.e., to influence people, to guide and direct them and to lead them. It is the mother who moulds the character of the child. The child then grows up to be an important personality, perhaps someone who decides the destinies of people or countries. What they have been taught on their mother’s lap will then be the guiding force behind the decisions they make. No wonder it was that Abraham Lincoln said, “All that I am or hope to be I owe to my angel mother.”

We have the example of Jijamata who inspired Shivaji Maharaj as a child with stories of great heroes. It was this inspiration that led him to lead the battle for Hindavi Swarajya and to establish the Maratha Empire.

You may not turn out to be a great ruler, but what you have been taught by your mother during childhood will be the guiding force in all that you do during your lifetime.

Strike when the iron is hot (OR) (make hay while the sun shine)

Strike when the iron is hot (OR) (make hay while the sun shine)

Expansion of Ideas School & College Section.

When life presents opportunities you must seize them and not let them go. Everyone in their lifetime gets some chances to move forward. They must avail of them and make use of them. These are god-sent occasions when someone is helping us to move forward in life. Something or the other or some person makes it easy for us to get along in life. That is what the proverb means. We must strike when the iron is hot. In other words, we must make hay while the sun is shining. In any sport, the winner is the one who looks for opportunities to overcome his opponents by taking advantage of his weakness.

It is also true that once we miss that opportunity it will never come our way again. And then we will live all our life to regret the missed chance. We must also put in our efforts. But never lose out on that chance that comes our way. At the right moment when opportunity presents itself we must seize it and see to it that we use it to help us to go even further in life. Then only can we be successful.

Travel broadens the mind.

Travel broadens the mind

Expansion of Ideas School & College Section.

If you live all your life in the same place, you are like the proverbial frog in a well who believes that the well is the whole world. You become narrow-minded. You may read books, magazines and newspapers, and still not know what the world outside is truly like. There is no doubt that travelling broadens the mind and enlivens the spirit.

Apart from viewing natural and historical sights, travelling enables a person to meet different people and study their customs, modes of dressing, culture and languages at close quarters. Meeting different people makes a person board-minded and tolerant.

Travelling brings people closer. Their outlook becomes progressive. Travelling removes prejudices and helps a person to become a citizen of the world in the true sense. Therefore, never lose an opportunity to travel. It will be an experience well worth the time and money spent on it. The world is a book and he who stays at home reads only one page.

Where there is will, there is a way

Where there is will, there is a way

Expansion of Ideas School & College Section.

When we read the biographies of great men and women, right from Albert Einstein to Edmund Hillary, we find that it is their strong will which made them overcome great difficulties or setbacks and find a way to march towards success. Similarly, a student may think securing a first class in an examination is beyond his or her capacity. But if the student makes a firm resolve to achieve his or her goal and works towards it wholeheartedly, he or she is almost certain to achieve success.

There was a time when lying in the air, travelling in space and sending messages and pictures over the air were all regarded as flights of fancy. But today we see that these seemingly impossible things have become possible. The aero plane, the spaceship, the radio, the television, the mobile phone and the internet are now realities.

How have these impossibilities been achieved ? By man’s will-power, determination and dedication. The doer is never a pessimist or a defeatist. he is an optimist confident of ultimate success. Nothing can deter him from his purpose. He has the will to win and achieve, and so he finds out ways and marches to ultimate victory.

So let us cultivate a strong will, a keen desire and the determination to achieve our goals. If there is no way we will create one. Victory is then bound to be ours

That’s why it's right said :-”where there is a will, there is a way”
