Solution:

The given equation is

y + 1/y  = 3

Multiplying with y on both the sides we get,

∴ y2 + y/y = 3

∴ y2 + 1 = 3

∴ y2 +1 – 3 = 0

∴ y2 – 2 = 0

But, it can be written as y2 + 0x – 2 = 0

Now, it is in the form of ax2 + bx + c = 0,

where a = 1, b = 0 and c = - 2 ,

Here a, b and c are belongs to Real numbers, where a is not equal to zero

∴ It is a quadratic eqution.
