Solution:

The given equation is

y + ^{1}/_{y}^{
} = 3

Multiplying with y on
both the sides we get,

∴ y^{2} + ^{y}/_{y}
= 3

∴ y^{2} + 1 = 3

∴ y^{2} +1 – 3 = 0

∴ y^{2} – 2 = 0

But, it can be written as y^{2} + 0x – 2 = 0

Now, it is in the form of ax^{2} + bx + c = 0,

where a = 1, b = 0 and c =  2 ,

Here a, b and c are belongs to Real numbers, where a is not
equal to zero

∴ It is a quadratic eqution.
