Respected Sir ,
The prices of books required by school students are rising year by year . This is no doubt due to the escalation in the price of paper and in the cost of living in general . A book of 200 pages costs as much as 50 or 60 rupees . Many poor parents find it difficult to buy all the books their children need . This is an unfortunate state of affairs in a country wedded to a socialistic pattern of society .
I suggest that the Government should direct the paper mills to sell paper at a subsidised rate to publishers bringing out educational books . Alternatively , the Bureau of Text – books in the different states should publish all the essential books needed by school students on a non – profit basis and sell them to the students through their schools , so that the booksellers ‘commission will be saved .
Yours truly ,
X.Y.Z.
