Rainwater harvesting is very important in Rajasthan.

1. The desert region in Rajasthan gets an average annual rainfall of less than 25cm, which is too scanty. Moreover, it is very irregular and uncertain.

2. Most of the rainfall occurs in July and August, which means that nearly ten months in a year is rainless.

3. So, to get water supply during dry period, there should be provision of stored water. This is possible only if rainwater is harvested (crop) in every possible way during the rainy season.
