According
to Prof. R.P. Kent, “Central Bank is an institution charged with the
responsibility of managing the expansion and contraction of the volume of money
in the interest of general public welfare.”
Thus, a bank which is
the apex in the banking structure is called the Central Bank. The main aim of
the Central Bank is not to earn profit but to promote general public welfare.
The Reserve Bank of India is a Central Bank of India.
