1) Describe the confrontation between the narrator and pongo.

He carefully searched the narrator's pockets and found them bulging with seventeen stolen oranges. The narrator was frightened and in deep trouble, as Pongo had caught him red-handed with the evidence. This intense confrontation forced the narrator to make a desperate decision to eat all the oranges, pips and all, to destroy the proof of his theft before they reached the police station.

2) What are some measures that are used to prevent soil erosion?

Several measures are used to prevent soil erosion effectively. The most important method is afforestation, which is planting more trees, as their roots bind the soil firmly. On hilly slopes, terrace farming and contour ploughing are practiced to slow down the flow of water and prevent soil from being washed away. Constructing dams and check-dams across rivers helps control floods, which are a major cause of soil erosion. Additionally, practicing crop rotation and avoiding overgrazing by animals also help in conserving the topsoil.
