2) What are some measures that are used to prevent soil erosion?

Soil erosion is the washing or blowing away of the top layer of soil. Several measures can be taken to prevent it. The most effective method is afforestation, which involves planting more trees, as their roots hold the soil firmly. On hilly terrains, terrace farming and contour ploughing are practiced. These methods slow down the flow of water, reducing its power to erode soil. Building bunds or embankments across farms and along riverbanks also helps to check water flow and prevent soil loss. Additionally, practicing crop rotation and using cover crops helps maintain soil health and structure, making it less susceptible to erosion by wind and water.
