Derailment Near Mahim

A devastating rail mishap occurred on yesterday's date near the Mahim signal post. At approximately 10:00 p.m., a local train traveling at full speed derailed a few kilometers ahead of the post. It jolted along for some distance before grinding to a shuddering stop.

The presence of mind and timely action of the motorman, Mr. Ajith, prevented a greater loss of life and property. The chief casualties were those who, in a panic, jumped from the moving train.

The incident left 80 passengers injured, many of them seriously. Bystanders and fellow travelers rushed to aid the injured. The police were informed of the accident almost immediately, and local residents quickly joined the relief operations. All the injured were transported to the nearby Railway Hospital in Byculla.
