12, Gandhi Street,
Chennai,
October 25, 2024.

Dear Priya,

I hope this letter finds you in good health. I am writing to you today to share my wonderful experience of celebrating Pongal in my native village last week. The joy of celebrating festivals in a village is something truly special and cannot be matched by city celebrations.

The entire village was decorated with colourful kolams and mango leaves. There was a sense of community and togetherness everywhere. We all gathered in the morning to cook sweet Pongal in a new earthen pot, and the air was filled with the delicious aroma and the cheerful cries of "Pongalo Pongal!". Later in the day, traditional games like Uri-adi and Jallikattu were organised, and it was so much fun to watch. The bond and warmth shared among the people here is the real essence of the festival.

I wish you could have been here with me. I have taken many pictures to show you. Hope to see you soon.

With love,

Anu

23. Story Writing

Answer:

The Dog and the Cherry Trees

In a small village lived an honest old couple who loved their dog dearly. They worked hard in their fields every day. Their neighbours, however, were a covetous and stingy old couple who were jealous of their happiness. One day, the honest couple's dog led them to a spot in the garden where they dug and found a chest full of treasure. The wicked neighbours heard of this and borrowed the dog, hoping it would find treasure for them too. When the dog led them to a spot with nothing but filth, they killed the poor animal in a rage.

Heartbroken, the good old man buried his dog under a pine tree. That night, the dog appeared in his dream, thanking him and telling him to chop down the pine tree and make a mortar from it. The old man did so, and when he ground his rice in the mortar, it turned into a pile of gold. The wicked couple borrowed the mortar, but their rice turned to dirt. In anger, they burnt the mortar. Again, the dog appeared in the old man's dream, telling him to sprinkle the ashes on withered cherry trees. He did, and the trees burst into beautiful bloom. The wicked couple tried the same, but the ashes blew into the eyes of the prince, who had them punished. The kind old couple was gifted handsomely and lived happily, while the wicked were trashed for their cruelty.
