Glossary of Terms

A Set is a well-defined collection of distinct objects. The objects in a set are called its elements or members.

Roster Form is a way of representing a set by listing all its elements, separated by commas, within curly braces { }. Example: A = {1, 2, 3}.

Set-Builder Form is a way of representing a set by describing the common property or rule that all its elements must follow. Example: B = {x | x is a vowel in the English alphabet}.

The Cardinal Number of a finite set is the number of elements it contains. It is denoted as n(A) for a set A. For example, if A = {a, b, c}, then n(A) = 3.

A Finite Set is a set where the process of counting its elements eventually ends. An Infinite Set is a set that is not finite; its elements cannot be counted completely, like the set of all natural numbers.
