7. WHY WAS THE TENSION MOUNTING BETWEEN THE COLONIES AND ENGLAND?

1. Tension was already mounting between the colonies and the Mother country on account of the presence of the British Army with its headquarters first in New York and then in Boston.
2. This army was actually kept for securing frontiers.
3. But the colonists saw this army as an attempt to control them
4. The incident known as ‘Boston massacre’ (5^th March, 1770) was the result of frequent clashes between the colonists and the Red Coats, meaning the British Soldiers.
