Ans.
- Marble pieces or Shahabad stones are taken in a flat bottom flask. The flask is fitted with a two – holed cork, bearing a thistle funnel and a delivery tube. The lower end of the funnel is immersed in the acid.
- Dilute HCl is then slowly added through the thistle funnel at which a rate that carbon dioxide gas is gradually evolved. The gas is allowed to escape for a while as it is mixed with air from the apparatus.
- The gas is then collected in gas jar by the upward displacement of air.
