Transforming Sentences: Assertive & Exclamatory
Hello, young grammar explorers! Today, we're going to learn a fun magic trick with sentences. Sentences can tell us things calmly, or they can shout with excitement! We'll learn how to change a 'telling' sentence (we call this an Assertive sentence) into an 'excitement' sentence (an Exclamatory sentence), and back again. It’s like giving your sentences different voices!
How to do the magic?
An Assertive sentence just tells you something, like "The cat is fluffy." It ends with a period (.).
An Exclamatory sentence shows a big feeling like surprise or happiness, like "What a fluffy cat!" or "How fluffy the cat is!" It ends with an exclamation mark (!).
To change from Assertive to Exclamatory, we often use words like 'What a' or 'How' at the beginning and add an exclamation mark!
To change from Exclamatory to Assertive, we take away 'What a' or 'How', make sure it sounds like a calm statement, and change the exclamation mark to a period.
