Uses and Misuses of Mobile Phones
VIEW
The mobile phone is one of the greatest inventions made by humankind in the 20th century. We can hardly imagine our lives without it. It is an undeniable truth that using mobile phones offers us enormous benefits in many aspects of life. However, their use can also lead to trouble in specific situations. In this essay, I will explain the advantages and disadvantages of using mobile phones, supporting my opinion with examples.
Firstly, I believe that the use of mobile phones has made our communication significantly easier than before. As you know, about 30 years ago, people had to grasp a landline phone or go to a public telephone booth to make a call. Furthermore, 50 years ago, we had to post mail or visit someone to communicate. In recent times, however, we can talk with people who live overseas, whenever we want. This technology also allows us to save time, reduce business trip expenditure, avoid traffic jams, and consequently, prevent environmental pollution caused by fuel combustion.

Conversely, some people suffer due to the careless use of mobile phones by others. We often encounter individuals speaking loudly in public places, particularly in libraries, on trains, and in theatres. This behavior can cause severe noise disturbances and sometimes lead to quarrels. In fact, according to a news report, an individual once committed a cruel assault, killing someone, because the victim was speaking too loudly on a train. As another example, the camera feature on mobile phones can sometimes infringe upon a person’s privacy. In one particular country, the government has legislated to prohibit taking photos in public places such as swimming pools and spas.
To conclude, the pros and cons of using mobile phones depend on whether we use them in right or wrong ways. Even though a mobile phone is personal property, we should always be careful and considerate when using it.
